Learning Profile-Reflection

On 30th November, Mr.Whiting came to my humanities class to help us figure out our best way of learning. We did these different tests, testing which was our dominant brain, ear, eye, hand, and foot. He taught us that there are two sides of a brain, logical and Gestalt. If you are logical, then you like everything in order. You like to come to class where the teacher has everything written down in a organized fashion. You don't like surprises. You are fine doing writing to explain. The Gestalt on the other hand is the opposite. If you are gestalt you go with the flow. You don't need a plan or something . My dominant brain is the logical side, or you can say, the left side of the brain. To find our dominant side of our brain, we just guessed. My dominant ear was my left ear. We had to press our ear on the door, trying each ear, the dominant ear would be the ear we felt comfortable listening with. For our eyes we used a green paper with a circle in the middle, we focused on something with one eye at a time. Then the eye we could see better with was the dominant eye. My eye was my right eye. My dominant had was my right hand . Someone dropped a pencil at a unaccepted time, the hand that came out first was our dominant hand. To find our dominant feet, we hand to fall down, but one of our feet came out. The feet that came out to stop the fall was the dominant leg. Using the information, we looked at a chart and step by step we figured out our profile. This profile shows how we learn the best, what can help us learn better. I am profile BB.

I learn better when I can speak or write (about what the teacher is talking about). For example, the teacher gives an example, I learn from that. "A visual learner that needs to see, speak, and/or write in order to learn" I also tend to do better when there is a step by step instructions. Preferbley, written down. "Has the ability to follow step by step visual instructions." The paper says, "Activities that help: reading out loud, active listening, Brain Gym Thinking Caps, megaphones, listening to the words of music, toning the vowels and integrated cross lateral foot play like cross crawls, walking, soccer, dancing, and martial arts like Tai Chi." This is how I learn better.

I need an balance of arts, music, freeform movement, and more. "An inegrative balance of art, music, freeform, and interpersonal/intrapersonal skills combined with cognitive endeavors will be highly beneficial." I usually do other things other that. This is mostly because I'm better at writing and stuff, and because I don't enjoy art and music very much. It is better if I sit at the front of the room near the right hand side. This helps listening from my dominant ear, the left. "This learner benefits from sitting at the front of the room on the right hand side to better access the dominant ear." These are a few things that might help my learning and understanding.

There are many strategies that could help me learn better. I understand better when there is visual instructions, like a movie, poster, picture, etc... If I tend to look over things before starting the work. When the teachers talk, I ask a lot questions, just to make sure. If I get an iMovie or picture, I can look over it or listen to it again to make sure, so I won't ask the teacher too many questions. Also, when the teachers keeps talking on and on, it gets boring for me, I loose my concentration. I sometimes day dream instead of listening, because I can't keep up with my teacher. If I were looking at a picture or watching a short movie, I might be pay a lot more attention. And I would put a bigger effort because I get the work or project we are supposed to do. Like the time we solved the problems Mesopotamia had. It was easier for me to understand and pay attention. I put more effort and pushed my group members further. These are the stratagies that could help me learn better.

I would like my teachers to know that I am better at writing stuff. I excel at blog posts, lit circles, etc... better than artsy projects. I also enjoy them better.  I like writing a lot though, more than the maximum limit. I like to go into details in stories, it takes many words to do that. I don't like seeing a big picture. I go look for details. In a painting, I would probably forget the main painting, but be interested in details. I like things to be big, and detailed. Sort of like a book. Big, large books are more interesting to me than shorter ones. I also have difficulty with my memory. I tend to forget a lot things, unless it's very important. My spelling and math skills aren't very good either. The profile evens says that. "May have difficulty with memory, spelling and math skills due to temporal lobe/limbic connection with hearing and memory. These are just few notes I would like my teachers to know.
